Description: The foundation awards grants to grassroots organizations to improve opportunities for disadvantaged young people in emerging market countries (countries that are transitioning from developing to developed) in their transitions to adulthood. It funds grants within its four categories: education, health, leadership, and livelihoods. EMpower supports service-related activities as well as organizational capacity-building, but not research or policy dialogue. Grantees must work with youth ages 10-24, have a track record of three or more years’ experience with demonstrable results, an annual budget of U.S. $1.5 million or less, and other existing sources of funding.
