This year, ASPBAE (Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education) completes 50 glorious years.

ASPBAE is an association of about 200 organizations across the Asia Pacific region which promotes the goal of quality education for all and transformative liberating life-long learning. PRIA India has a long standing association with ASPBAE dating back to 1986 when PRIA Founder and President, Dr. Rajesh Tandon became the Asian Vice-President of ICAE, and ex-officio member of ASPBAE Executive and later, in 1991, became the President of ASPBAE for two terms till 2000. Over the years PRIA and ASPBE have collaborated in several significant workshops and initiatives to promote adult education and life-long learning across the Asia South Pacific region. Asian Workshop on Worker’s Education in Sri Lanka, 1986; World Assembly of Adult Education, Bangkok, January 1990; South-Asian Women’s Education workshop, 1992 to name a few.

In 1993 ASPBAE’s South-East Asian Coordination Office was set up at PRIA and the association only grew stronger.

Now, we are celebrating ASPBAE’s glorious 50 years at PRIA. As part of the celebration, we are inviting youth and NGO representatives from across 12 countries to participate in a 3 day workshop on 'Youth and Inclusive Citizenship.' Eminent personalities such as Mr. JP Rai, Director General, National Skill Development Agency, Uwe Gartenschlaeger, Dy. Director, DVV International, Germany and Rika Yorozu, Program Specialist, UNESCO Institute for Life Long Learning, Germany would be speaking at the occasion.

The objectives of the workshop is to understand opportunities for deepening inclusive citizenship amongst youth in Asia-Pacific; Systematize innovative practices that integrate work, life and citizenship skills and capacities amongst youth; Prepare focused inputs to national, regional and international policy-making bodies and processes.
