The rich and unique contribution of Society for Energy, Environment and Development (SEED), a Hyderabad based NGO involved in food technology, was highlighted at the 30 Foundation Day celebrations of the organisation held on Saturday. Founded by M Ramakrishna Rao, a retired scientist from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, SEED had brought out 92 products till date mostly using technology supported by renewable and alternate energy.
‘Tap renewable energy’
G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Advisor to the Minister of Defence, Government of India who was the chief guest of the programme said that NGOs should increasingly get in to Research and Development (R&D) in niche areas instead of expecting the government to do so. Through his own experience, Mr. Reddy said that he was surprised to know that whatever development programme he wanted to take up in his village could be done through the various welfare schemes rolled out by the government. He said that there was a need to create awareness among the people to learn more about the government programmes and make use of them.
G. Vivekanand, Advisor to the Telangana government and former MP, appreciated the work of SEED and said that their health drink supplied to the school children was receiving positive feedback.
