CHENNAI: TVS Motor chairman Venu Srinivasan has welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) and compared India's "biggest ever cleanliness drive" with TVS's own corporate social responsibility ( CSR) initiative.
Srinivasan Services Trust (SST) has been focusing on hygiene, sanitation and women empowerment in over 2,500 villages for the last 20 years. "Nirmal Gram Puraskar, an award-based incentive scheme for fully sanitized and open defecation free gram panchayats, blocks, districts and states, was launched by the Government of India," the company said in a statement.
"SST consciously works on reducing open defecation which helps improve personal hygiene and sanitation in the villages. Forty nine panchayats (331 SST villages) have won the Nirmal Gram Puraskar," he said.
